‘Something Spooky’ Premieres Off-Broadway This Spooky Season

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, September 29, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Melding his love of immersive horror with humor into a genre-bending 1-hour show, comedian Jon Schnitzer’s inspiration for “Something Spooky” came from the current state of the world, his lifelong love of story-telling and a personal quest to connect with his family.

Word-of-mouth about his hilarious and hair-raising performance sold-out every show at top alt-comedy venues in Los Angeles – Dynasty Typewriter, The Elysian Theater, and Hollywood Fringe – and is coming to New York City for one night only on October 24, 2026 at SoHo Playhouse.

“My family can’t agree on politics or what’s going on in the world, but we do agree these things happened, we just don’t know what it means. It’s been fun to bond over something mysterious and kind of magical, so the positive audience reception, awards and reviews have been kind of mind-blowing,” says Schnitzer.

Schnitzer has a background in producing live immersive experiences for Hollywood icons and historic celebrations including Tim Burton, The Egyptian Theater, and even President Obama’s first Halloween Party at The White House.

An expert in “all things scary” from his experience directing and producing the acclaimed documentary “Haunters: The Art Of The Scare”, Schnitzer explains why 2026 has become such a hot year for the genre, “During dark times, people always turn to horror entertainment to escape the horrors of reality. Horror is breaking all kinds of records now – theme park haunts like Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights are scaring up their largest attendances ever, “Widows Bay” on Apple won 14 Emmys, “Paranormal Activity” is a commercial and critical hit on Broadway, Halloween conventions like Midsummer Scream maxed out their capacity this year, plus a new generation of movie-goers made films like “Backrooms”, “Obsession”, and “Resident Evil” big screen blockbusters. And, after the historic sweep of Oscar nominations and wins for “Sinners” and “Weapons”, even the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures finally recognized horror as art with its very own exhibit.”

For “Something Spooky”, Schnitzer teamed up with some of his favorite artistic partners. Composer Alexander Burke, known for his musical collaborations with David Lynch, Chrystabell, Ryan Gosling’s haunted house band Dead Man’s Bones and The Amazing Digital Circus, created an all original supernatural soundscape integral to his show. To develop the Hollywood Fringe run of “Something Spooky”, Schnitzer teamed up with dramaturg and producer CK Kiechel, award-winning playwright and TV writer/producer on shows like HBO’s “Watchmen” and Netflix’s “The OA”.

“Something Spooky” marks the second time SoHo Playhouse has invited Schnitzer to premiere his work in New York. Schnitzer is thrilled to return, “SoHo Playhouse is a historic institution and is infamous with its staff for being haunted.”
